Dear Bur-Mil Families,
I hope this email finds you all well and excited to gear up for summer swimming! It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that I will not be returning to Bur-Mil as the coach of the Marlins this summer. As you know, I have been working on my PhD full time since the fall of 2012. However, after Ethan was born and funding for grad assistants was cut as a result of the state budget, it became increasingly necessary for me to return to full time employment. I was blessed by an incredible opportunity to return to Guilford County Schools as a Lateral Entry Specialist. The job allows me to combine all of my strengths and passions as I coach new lateral entry teachers, teach in our in house licensure program, and write curriculum for our courses. The only downside of this dream job is that it is a 12 month position. It is heart breaking to me to not return to Bur-Mil this summer, especially after finally reaching the top division in CSA. However, I trust that you all understand the reality of meeting my family's needs and not passing on a wonderful job opportunity. I am grateful for my time with the Marlins and for the role all of you have played in making it such a joyful 7 summers! Bur-Mil and the Marlin family have stolen a piece of my heart and I am honored to have been on this journey to excellence with ALL of you!
Thankfully, my boss at Bur-Mil (Todd Moore) understands my passion, dedication, and love for Bur-Mil. He has allowed me to take the lead in hiring staff for this season and to see that the transition happens smoothly. It is with great pleasure that I announce that the new head coach of the Bur-Mil Marlins is Ali Fourqurean! Ali joined our coaching staff last summer as an assistant coach after having swam with Bur-Mil for several seasons. Ali is finishing up her freshman year at Clemson and brings incredible knowledge and skill to the team. Ali previously coached at Starmount Forest, was a lifeguard for the YMCA, and is a graduate of the Early College at Guilford. I will continue working with Ali to ensure her successful transition into the head coaching position. Please join me in welcoming Ali into this new role!
Registration for the 2015 season will open online tomorrow morning at 8am. Ali and I will be working together to get all of the information/schedules/etc updated on the team website. We are looking to hire up to 3 assistant coaches, so if you know of any prospects, please have them contact me as I will continue leading hiring until all positions are filled.
Thank you for many, many years of fun and joy! I can't imagine my summer this year without all of you! I may not be there day in and day out, but I will certainly still be around as much as I can! Best of luck to you all and GOOOOO Marlins!!!
